Kento Tsubosaka
Born in Yokohama, Kanagawa. He studied jazz piano under Fumio Itabashi and Junko Onishi, and composition under Vadim Neselovskyi and Terence Blanchard. After graduating from Keio University, he moved to the United States. In 2017, he was selected through audition for the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, a musician development program led by artistic director Danilo Pérez. He has performed alongside Paquito D'Rivera, Miguel Zenón, John Patitucci, and Catherine Russell, among others. In 2019, he graduated from Berklee College of Music at the top of his class. In 2022, he formed the duo "soraya" with Kurena Ishikawa (bass/vocals), releasing their debut album in April of the same year. He has since taken charge of all composition and sound production for the project. In July 2024, soraya performed at Fuji Rock Festival as one of the most exciting new jazz units, drawing significant attention.
Since 2022, he has been a member of "From Ozone till Dawn," a young artist development project led by jazz pianist Makoto Ozono. In July 2023, he performed as a solo pianist at the San Sebastián Jazz Festival in Spain, followed by a solo piano recital at Yamaha Ginza Hall in November of the same year. In May 2024, he gave a celebrated performance of “Rhapsody in Blue” with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. He also released his solo piano debut album “When I Sing” on Universal Music (Verve). In January 2025, he was invited to perform at La Folle Journée in Nantes, France — one of the world's most prestigious classical music festivals. Crossing genres with effortless versatility, he continues to expand his horizons as one of the most promising talents of his generation.
